Edwin M. Knowles
11.75 x 8.75 inch decorative platter

It may not be Homer Laughlin, but Knowles' semi-vitreous dinnerware is just as lovely. This charmingly elegant Victorian-style platter is in wonderful condition, with a very solid gold chi (key) pattern around the rim. The gold trim and verge (inner ring) are also in solid condition.

Inside the gold rim is a floral garland of tiny blue and pink roses, interspersed with larger bouquets in pink and yellow. This piece is identifiable at Replacements.com as item 185142, pattern KN0584. They describe it as "Greek key on gold, floral swag."

The mark reads "Semi Vitreous / Edwin M. Knowles / China Co. / Made in U.S.A. / 44-10." Price: $20

1930s-40s Edwin M. Knowles
Yorktown
10.5-inch Dinner Plate

A lovely dinner plate from Edwin M. Knowles in a design called Yorktown (pattern 223127 at replacements.com). I believe this shape was made in the 1930s and mid-1940s, and the color is called "white," although the plate is actually a light tan or cream.

The large plate measures 10.5 inches wide at the handles and almost 10 inches wide at the middle. It is in very good condition. The 7-ring design is nicely detailed, and the tab-like handles are very intact. There are medium-light utensil marks, and no cracks, chips, or crazing.

The plate is marked with the Basket mark for Knowles. Price: $12.00.
