Beautiful Small Vintage Vase from
Czechoslovakia
Hand-Painted Design

A gorgeous hand-painted small vase with two handles, with an elegant design of large red (almost orange) flowers (I think poppies) with vining green leaves. This little gem is from the former Czechoslovakia (now the Czech Republic). I thought the maker was "Coronet," but a little research shows apparently that Coronet was a New York import company in business in the 1930s (see details below).

This pretty vase measures about 4.75 inches high and 4 inches wide across the bulbous middle. It is in very good condition, with just a bit of wear to the red trim around the rim. There are no cracks or chips or crazing.

The piece is stamped in black with a crown logo circled by a wreath, and the words "Trade Mark / Coronet / Czechoslovakia Registered." Price: $25.00.

Beautiful Two-Handled Vase from
Czechoslovakia
Pearl Luster (Lustre), Black Trim

An very pretty hand-decorated small vase with two handles, elaborately decorated in a mother-of-pearl luster (lustre) glaze, in a diamond-like design. The handles and trim are glazed black, and the interior is plain white.

This gorgeous vase measures 4.25 inches high and 3.5 inches wide across the shoulder. It is in very good to excellent condition. The black handles and rim are very intact, with no signs of wear to the glaze or fleabites (shallow chips). There is no crazing that I can see, and no flakes or glaze skips.

The piece is stamped in reddish-brown with circle logo, which is only partly visible (mainly obscured by the glaze). I believe I can make out part of the words for Czecho-slovakia (I've also sold several other vases of this shape, which were more clearly labeled with the Czechoslovakia mark). There is also a red number 18.

This vase is also shown on page 129 of the volume "Czechoslovakian Pottery" by Bowers, Closser, and Ellis. Price: $20.00.
