Gold Filigree Trim
Harker Royal Gadroon
5 "Colonial Couple" Plates

Offered for auction: Five wonderfully designed plates in the venerable "Colonial Couple" (or Victorian Couple) pattern. I believe these plates are from Harker in a shape called Royal Gadroon (as shown at replacements.com).

The large plate measures 10-3/8 inches wide. It is very good condition. There are no chips, cracks, crazing, or flakes. There are some scratch marks or wear to the decal decoration (see photos, orange arrows), and the gold filigree around the rim is worn. There is also a bump to the finish, original to manufacture (as seen in the photo at right, orange arrows). The elegant scrolled Gadroon rim is remarkably free of damage or chips.

The smaller 6.25-inch dishes (bread and butter plates) are not in as good condition. They have discoloration in spots, chips to the rim (on the back), a couple of hairline cracks, and wear to the pattern (especially on one). They would not be appropriate for use, but do make a pleasing display. (More pictures available on request.)

Price: $25.00.

Vintage Decorative Plate
Harker FLYING DUCKS
Thick Gold Trim

A wonderfully colorful vintage plate from Harker, showing mallards landing at sunset in a pond filled with water lilies and reeds. It has rich encrusted gold trim around the outer edge, with an interior green band (photo at right). The plate measures 8.75 inches wide.

This old plate is in very good condition. There are no chips, cracks, or flakes, and no signs of use (such as utensil marks). It is free of crazing and other usual flaws. There is dried-on masking tape on the back, as shown in the photo at right.

It is marked in green on the bottom with"HARKER / 1840." (Lehner's Encyclopedia of Marks dates this mark to the 1950s.) Price: $25.

2 Harker "Chesterton - Light Gray"
Round Salad Plates

7-3/8 inches wide, light gray, good condition. Medium crazing throughout. One plate has a pinhead-size fleabite on the underside of the rim; no other chips or flaws I can find. Stamped "Chesterton by Harker pottery Co. U.S.A." Price for pair: $9.
