Buffalo China

Buffalo China
Heavy Platter / Serving Plate:

Greek Chariots and Warriors

Offered: A lovely restaurant ware platter from Buffalo China (Buffalo Pottery). It is a heavy, very solid piece, indicative of use as restaurant (institutional or railroad) ware.

This dish measures 12.5 inches long and 8.5 inches wide across the rim. It has a rich white glossy finish with a dark red border of ancient warriors fighting (I believe they are Japanese Samurai).

This platter is in great condition. There are almost no utensil marks, and no chips, cracks, hairlines, or crazing. The transferware border is very rich in color and intact.

The base is stamped (under glaze) with the buffalo logo and "Buffalo 302D." There is also a raised underglaze number 2237.

Price: $25.00

Lamberton Scammell

Lamberton-Scammell China:
Heavy Restaurant Ware Platter “Platinum Blue”

A very heavy, thick restaurantware platter from Lamberton-Scammell (Trenton, NJ) in a pattern called "Platinum." It measures 11 inches in length, and 7.75 inches wide at the middle.

It is finished in a glaze color called "Platinum," which is grayish with a faint blue hue. There is some pitting and baked-on residue around the outter rim and underside (as I hope you can see in the large photos above and below). There are no chips, cracks, flakes, but extensive utensil marks and light scratches.

The mark on the bottom reads: Platinum Blue / LAMBERTON S CHINA SCAMMELL.
Price: $15.00

Sabin China

Wonderful 1940s-50s Chicago Souvenir Plate
Wide, Gold Trim from Sabin

As someone who lives in Chicago, I find this plate really entertaining! To see a souvenir of the Windy City that does NOT feature the Sears Tower or the Hancock Building is just amazing! Instead, we get the old jewels of the Wrigley Building, the Water Tower, Tribune Tower, along with Buckingham Fountain in Grant Park at the lakefront.

As you can see in the photos, this plate is in astoundingly good condition for its age. There are no chips, cracks, flakes, or hairlines. There is very light crazing visible in the white portions of the verge. The gold trim is about 99% intact, and the decal decoration is flawless, with no scratches.

This plate measures 9.25 inches across the rim, with the gold trimmed rim being 1.25 inches wide. The back is marked "Crest-O-Gold / SABIN / Made in U.S.A."

Sabin was based in McKeesport, Pennsylvania, from 1946 to 1979, and at one point owned both Mt. Clements Pottery and McCoy Pottery (Lehners, p. 395). Price: $35.00

 Syracuse China

Four Beautiful “Syracuse China” Dinner Plates:
Lovely Restaurant Ware from the 1940s

Very Good Condition, Lovely Design

Four lovely dishes from Syracuse China in a pattern of a rich gray border with a white scrolled design. All four dishes are in good condition, with very intact designs and trim. Note that two of these plates have a darker gray rim, while two have a lighter shade. (The small gravy boat is included as a bonus!)

These wonderful plates measure about 9.5 inches across the rim. There are no chips, cracks, hairlines, or flakes; there are some bumpy edges (a very light fleabite on one plate's edge, too small to photograph). There is some scuffing and utensil wear, as you would expect from heavy-duty restaurant ware. (Any white spots are camera flash.)

The bottom stamp reads "SYRACUSE China." Two of the plates are marked DD (1949), one is number AA (1946), and one is BB (1947).

World's Fair Commemorative Plates

Small, Iridescent Seattle World's Fair Saucer

This small saucer has a transfer print of the Seattle World's Fair, along with a wonderful iridescent or luminescent sheen (almost a mother-of-pearl pink and green shimmer around the rim!).

There are no cracks, hairlines, or crazing, nor any signs of marks or scratches from use. The detail is very clear and rich (see photos). On the bottom is the original label for IAAC Ceramics (along with Made in Japan). Price: $7.99

H.R. Wyllie

Three Dinner Plates from the 1910s-1920s:
H.R. Wyllie
“Old Spanish” Pattern

Three stunning dinner plates from H.R. Wyllie in the pattern called "Old Spanish," dated from between 1910 and the mid-1920s. These plates measure 9.25 inches across the rim, and feature bouquets of orange tulips with blue forget-me-nots on a soft washed yellow background, in a very art nouveau design.

Two of these plates are in very good condition. They show extremely light utensil marks when held to the light, and one has a light wear mark on a tulip at the raised rib edge. The third has extensive crazing, which makes the light utensil marks more visible. There are no chips, cracks, or hairlines to any of the 3 plates.

The base of the plates are stamped in gold: Old / Spanish / H.R. Wyllie . Price: $45.00.
