Child's Plate

"Peter Rabbit" (Camomile Tea)

A very lovely child's plate from Wedgwood in the Peter Rabbit series. This small piece measures 6-7/8 inches wide at the rim. It is in very good to fine condition, with intact designs and writing, and no signs of use or wear that I can find.

The central design is Mrs. Rabbit putting Peter to bed. The text around the rim reads "Peter was not very well during the evening. His mother put him to bed, and made some camomile tea: 'One table-spoonful to be taken at bed-time.'"

This plate is marked with "The World of Peter Rabbit / Frederick Warne / Peter Rabbit ™ / © Frederick Warne & Co. / Wedgwood / Made in England." Price: $25.00.

14 Inch Wedgwood Platter,
Hand-Painted Decoration on Transferware

A very elegant Wedgwood 14-inch platter, with thick red and gold border in very good condition. Centerpiece rose is transferware, with hand-painted detailing (with raised brush strokes).

This wonderful piece is signed "G. Baylis." The center features a pink rose with white detailing, surrounded by blue forget-me-nots and yellow-green leaves. The outer rim has a 1.3-inch dark red or maroon band, with gold trim and gold decorations on both sides (see details below); the red band shows a couple of utensil scratches and light crazing, but is very solid. The gold edging is very intact.

The only flaw in this platter (NO cracks, hairlines, or chips) is that the white inner body is showing some browning. It is visible, but not severe. The closeup photo actually make it look worse than it is (and a little peroxide should take care of it!).

Marked with the Unicorn logo and 3 balls: WEDGWOOD & CO LTD / ENGLAND / RG TRADE MARK 547269. There is also an impressed mark that appears to be 748 W, along with assorted dots and spots. Price: $25.00.
