Very Pretty Pair:
1920s "Early Utility" Hull Steins
Stoneware with Old Hull "H" Circle Mark

A wonderful embossed pair of "Rhein steins" from Hull's 1920s early utilityware line, as shown on pages 38-9 of the Brenda Roberts' "Collector's Encyclopedia of Hull Pottery."

These wonderfully detailed steins measure 6.25 inches in height, 3.5 inches across the foot, and 2.75 inches across the rim. They both have a very crisp design to the shape and handle and to the figures decorating the sides.

Stein 1 is in good condition. There are no chips, cracks, or flakes. There is one very fine hairline about 2 inches long down the right side. There is also fine crazing throughout, consistent with age. The stein has a very clean interior.

Stein 2 is in fair condition. It has both a fine hairline as well as a rim flake (as shown above). There is also fine crazing throughout.

Together, they display as a gorgeous pair.

Both pieces are marked on the bottom with the incised old Hull "H" logo in a circle and the number 492.

Price: $79 for pair.

Hull F65
Large "Ruffled Top" Pedestal Planter

Rich Green Glaze

A large "ruffled top" round pedestal planter from Hull, in the Imperial line (as shown on page 191 of the Brenda Roberts book, "Collector's Encyclopedia of Hull Pottery").

This green planter dish (not as electric green as my camera flash makes it look) is in very good to excellent condition. There are no cracks, chips, hairlines, flakes, or crazing. The interior is very clean as well; there are 4 circles on the inner base where the green is darker, and this appears to be original to the manufacture.

The inside of the base has two marks. One is F65, the model number, the other is Hull USA.

Price: $12.00.

Hull Imperial F404
"Footed Garden Dish"

A very pretty satin white "footed garden dish" from Hull, with a nicely detailed overlapping diamond design. This lovely planter measures 7 inches long (at the rim), 4 inches wide at the middle, and 3 inches high.

This piece has one flaw, a chip on the corner (photo at right). Otherwise, there are no cracks, flakes, hairlines, or crazing. It is very clean on the inside as well.

The piece is marked with an incised 404-USA. It is shown on page 191 of the Brenda Roberts' Hull encyclopedia.

Price: $5.00.

Hull
Individual Bean Pot with Lid,
Mirror Brown Drip

A Hull individual bean pot with lid in the "House 'n Garden Serving-ware" line (mirror brown trimmed in Ivory Foam), from the 1960s (as shown on page 182 of the "Collector's Encyclopedia of Hull Pottery" by Brenda Roberts). It measures 3.5 inches wide at the base, 4.25 inches wide across the handles, and 3-1/8 inches tall at the rim (without the lid).

This Hull pot is in good condition. There are no chips, cracks, crazing, or hairlines that I can see or find. It is very clean on the inside as well. The lid, however, has two shallow flakes on the underside of the rim. They are not visible when the lid is covering the pot.

The bottom of the pot is marked hull © / Oven-Proof / u.S.a. Price: $7.50.

Also available, Hull brown-drip creamer ($7.50) and mugs ($7.50).

Hull Cart Flower Dish F450
Rich Satin White Glaze

Vintage Hull Pottery Imperial planter (or flower dish) in the shape of a cart. 6.5 inches long and 4 inches wide at the top, 2.75 inches high at the sides. Very good condition. No flaws that I can find (except for florist's glue on the interior). Incised bottom mark reads: "450 / USA." Shown on page 184 of the Roberts' "Encyclopedia of Hull Pottery." Price: $7.50
