From Abingdon, Illinois, home of Abingdon Pottery, this lovely bowl or garden dish is a wonderful art pottery piece in a graceful style and a lovely green Abingdon glaze, made between 1934 and 1950 when Abingdon was in business. This piece is clearly marked with the Abingdon stamped logo. A soft sage green, the bowl measures 11 inches long at the rim, 7 inches wide, and sits 2.5 inches high. Either end has a wonderfully shaped leaf-like shallow handle. This
piece is in overall very good condition. There is one chip on the foot
rim (looks like a firing flake, and is partially under glaze), shown in
the closeup photos at top. There is also several bumps and smooshed areas
on the foot, all part of the manufacture of this vintage piece.
Abingdon From Abingdon, Illinois, home of Abingdon Pottery, this lovely centerpiece bowl or garden dish is a wonderful art pottery piece in a graceful style and a lovely white Abingdon glaze, made between 1934 and 1950 when Abingdon was in business. This piece is marked with the Abingdon stamped logo and an incised under-glaze number 542. A rich white, the bowl measures 14.25 inches long, 9 inches wide, and sits 2.5 inches high. It has a recessed rim and a raised lip around the top. This piece is in overall very good to excellent condition. There are no chips or cracks or crazing--it makes a gorgeous display. Price: $15.00
From Abingdon, Illinois, home of Abingdon Pottery, this vase is a wonderful art pottery piece in a graceful style, made between 1934 and 1950 (when Abingdon was in business). This vase is marked with the Abingdon stamped blue logo, along with an impressed under-glaze number 620. A rich satiny white, the vase measures 8.75 inches high, 4.5 inches wide across the top, and 5.25 inches wide across the handles. The vase has two visible flaws. The more major is that one of the elegantly curled scroll handles has been broken and not well repaired (email me for closeup photos). There is one small light brown spot on the side, which feels like a glaze impurity (original to manufacture, and not very visible). In addition to the bottom stamp and incised mark, that is also a hand-scratched mark (under the glaze), which appears to be YII. Price: $5.00.
