Hull Pottery

Very Pretty Pair:
1920s "Early Utility" Hull Steins
Stoneware with Old Hull "H" Circle Mark

A wonderful embossed pair of "Rhein steins" from Hull's 1920s early utilityware line, as shown on pages 38-9 of the Brenda Roberts' "Collector's Encyclopedia of Hull Pottery."

These wonderfully detailed steins measure 6.25 inches in height, 3.5 inches across the foot, and 2.75 inches across the rim. They both have a very crisp design to the shape and handle and to the figures decorating the sides.

Stein 1 is in good condition. There are no chips, cracks, or flakes. There is one very fine hairline about 2 inches long down the right side (photo below right). There is also fine crazing throughout, consistent with age. The stein has a very clean interior.

Stein 2 is in fair condition. It has both a fine hairline as well as a rim flake (as shown in the two photos below). There is also fine crazing throughout.

Together, they display as a gorgeous pair.

Both pieces are marked on the bottom with the incised old Hull "H" logo in a circle and the number 492.

Price: $79 for pair.

Richly Glazed Hull Imperial "Round Fluted Flower Bowl"

A very pretty flower bowl from Hull, in a rich textured orange (terra cotta) glaze. This planter measures 3.5 inches in height, 6.5 inches across the rim, and 3.75 inches at the base. It has richly detailed ribs from the top to the footed pedestal base.

This piece is in excellent condition. There are no chips, cracks, flakes, hairlines, or crazing; any flaws or bumps are under the glaze and original to manufacture. It is very clean on the inside as well.

The piece is marked with the Hull logo with the traditional USA, along with the number F10.
Price: $12

Hull
Individual
Bean Pot
with Lid,

Mirror Brown Drip

A Hull individual bean pot with lid in the "House 'n Garden Serving-ware" line (mirror brown trimmed in Ivory Foam), from the 1960s (as shown on page 182 of the "Collector's Encyclopedia of Hull Pottery" by Brenda Roberts). It measures 3.5 inches wide at the base, 4.25 inches wide across the handles, and 3-1/8 inches tall at the rim (without the lid).

This Hull pot is in good condition. There are no chips, cracks, crazing, or hairlines that I can see or find. It is very clean on the inside as well.

The lid, however, has two shallow flakes on the underside of the rim. They are not visible when the lid is covering the pot.

The bottom of the pot is marked hull © / Oven-Proof / u.S.a. Price: $8
